Ethereum Holds Above $1.8K as Whales Go Long

The price of Ethereum has remained steady around $1.8k. After successfully rebounding from $1800, the altcoin has demonstrated relative strength, increasing to $1876. As this time, Ethereum is trading around $1866, reflecting a modest increase of 1.7% on the daily charts. As ETH hovered around $1.8k, large investors exhibited optimism and initiated long positions. According to Lookonchain, two newly created wallets sold 72 Bitcoin worth $4.66 million and subsequently transitioned to Ethereum. After liquidating BTC, the trader initiated a 20x long position in 12,000 ETH, valued at approximately $22.4 million. Currently, with ETH maintaining its position above the entry price, the whale has realised a gain of $275k, having incurred $5.8k in funding fees. With the trader liquidating BTC in favour of ETH, the whale perceived it as a superior alternative and a more favourable investment opportunity.

Interestingly, this whale was not an isolated case, as buyers have made a robust resurgence in the market. The Derivatives Taker Buy-sell Ratio increased, returning to the 1 mark, and has maintained this level for two consecutive days.At 1.13, it indicates that a greater number of buy orders were executed on the derivatives side. Consequently, substantial capital has been directed towards Futures positions. Over the past 24 hours, $3.67 billion entered Futures positions, while $3.32 million exited. Consequently, Futures Netflow increased by 213% to $351.1 million, indicating a greater influx of capital into new positions. Even more importantly, it appears that a significant portion of these funds has been directed towards establishing long positions.

The Long/Short Ratio has consistently remained above 1, averaging 2 on Binance. This implies that a greater number of traders held a bullish outlook and expected further appreciation in ETH price charts. Ethereum buyers, particularly in the derivatives market, have started to reassert their dominance. In fact, the altcoin’s True Strength Index has maintained an upward trajectory, increasing to 15 at the time of reporting. When TSI is rising, it indicates that bullish momentum is strengthening, with buyers gradually retaking the market. Often, when this indicator rises, it suggests that the uptrend is strengthening and is likely to persist.

Indeed, the Momentum Adjusted Moving Average substantiates the robustness of this trend. ETH is positioned above the MaMa at $1848 and the Positive Feedback Band at $1875. Under these conditions, if buyers maintain their position on the derivatives side, the altcoin is poised to surpass $1900 and continue its upward trajectory. To maintain this optimistic perspective, Ethereum needs to remain above the MaMa’s Positive Feedback Band at $1875.
