Recent trends in Ethereum spot ETF withdrawals suggest a decline in institutional demand for Ethereum, exerting downward pressure on the capital supporting Ethereum. Withdrawals totalling approximately $170.21 million were observed over a span of three consecutive days leading up to October 28th. Despite this decrease in withdrawals from $88.58 million on the 26th of October to $21.41 million, it suggests that the trend of selling may be decelerating. However, no reversal in purchasing activity has been observed. As ETF withdrawals persist, the total assets held within these ETFs have diminished to $14.27 billion. Additionally, the total net inflows for all ETH-based ETFs have decreased to $12.55 billion.
Fidelity’s FETH managed to offer some respite from the latest withdrawals, whereas BlackRock’s ETHA played a role in exacerbating them. That said, if buying flows do not increase, then continued redemptions will likely lead to a reduction in institutional support for ETH. Consequently, this would lead to increased selling pressure. In conjunction with ETF outflows exerting further selling pressure, ETH has experienced a general price decline since early October, when it decreased from $2,640-$2,700 to $2,400. At this time, ETH was trading at $2,309.30, reflecting a decline of 2.02% over the past 24 hours. After a potential rebound to $2,540-$2,560 did not occur, the sell-off drove prices below $2,400, transforming former support into current resistance. ETH is currently examining the region of significance around the $2,280-$2,300 range for indications of demand. Lower volumes suggest diminished selling pressure; nonetheless, buyers continue to exhibit reluctance.
The MACD lines are converging toward zero, and the histogram is very low, indicating compressed momentum ahead of a potential expansion in volatility. A close below 2,280 could lead to declines toward 2,200 or 2,120. Conversely, sustaining support and closing above $2,360 may indicate the emergence of a double bottom formation. In turn, this would lead to a renewed uptrend and a move toward the specified level. As Ethereum’s price continues to decline, the increasing demand for Bitcoin ETFs exerts further downward pressure on Ethereum, reflecting investors’ ongoing preference for Bitcoin. The total amount of money invested in Bitcoin ETFs increased by $423 million between October 26th and 28th.
This difference in investment activity indicates investor preference and has maintained the ETH/BTC ratio at approximately 0.0290 based on the data. Withdrawals from BlackRock’s ETHA ETF have persistently diminished institutional demand for Ethereum, despite Fidelity’s FETH experiencing intermittent inflows. A recovery in Ethereum prices will hinge on the return of ETF inflows, accompanied by significant rises in spot purchases and an uptick in overall trading volumes. Enhanced market liquidity is poised to support a rebound in Ethereum prices, contingent upon the realisation of those conditions. Increased ETF outflows pose a significant risk to Ethereum prices unless they are curtailed. Overall, in light of the prevailing conditions, sustained ETF outflows may result in Ethereum lagging further behind Bitcoin.
