Ethereum registered its largest daily exchange outflows in over four months, with 169,770 ETH leaving exchanges as market participants anticipate a potential price rebound. Santiment Intelligence is analysing the recent withdrawals in relation to a comparable spike observed on June 5th. Subsequent to that timeframe, Ethereum experienced approximately 223,800 ETH in net outflows as its price attained a local nadir. Subsequently, the token experienced a robust price rebound, rendering the subsequent withdrawal spike especially noteworthy in relation to the existing market conditions. For context, substantial exchange withdrawals typically constrain the quantity of ETH available for immediate sale. Consequently, this recent development bolstered expectations for a potential price recovery, despite the fact that historical patterns do not always provide assurances.
Meanwhile, the selling activity among Ethereum’s earliest investors introduced another significant factor into the recovery narrative. According to Lookonchain, an early Ethereum investor reportedly divested 3,000 ETH, which was valued at approximately $7.23 million. Originally, the investor acquired the tokens nine years prior at a price of $18.83 each, resulting in a reported return of 128 times the initial investment. Additionally, another early Ethereum participant sold 1,000 ETH after purchasing tokens during Ethereum’s initial coin offering. This investor originally purchased 100,000 ETH at approximately $0.31 per token. The two long-term holders collectively divested 4,000 ETH, underscoring a resurgence in selling behaviour among Ethereum’s original investors. Despite the reported exchange withdrawals suggesting a constrained supply, the transactions involving large holders indicated persistent selling activity among long-term investors.
Additionally, Ethereum’s derivatives market underscored ongoing selling pressure, extending beyond these specific transactions. According analytics, Ethereum’s Futures Taker CVD has consistently indicated seller dominance, suggesting ongoing aggressive selling activity. In particular, this indicator assessed the cumulative divergence between market buy and sell orders within the Futures markets of ETH. The seller-dominant reading indicated that aggressive sellers continued to outweigh buyers throughout the observed period. This derivatives positioning contrasted with the considerable exchange withdrawals reported by Santiment. Consequently, such positioning could likely undermine recovery prospects, particularly if aggressive Futures selling continues in conjunction with the current weak ETH price action. The daily timeframe chart indicated persistent weakness following ETH’s inability to maintain its prior recovery toward the $2,540.68 price level.
The altcoin subsequently retraced to $2,376.62, breaching its critical support at the $2,385.62 price point. Notably, the latest candles indicated multiple efforts to stabilise within this zone; however, the bulls failed to achieve a convincing rebound. Meanwhile, the Parabolic SAR indicator persisted above the prevailing market value at $2,509.93 as of writing, reinforcing the existing bearish structure. Furthermore, the MACD indicator exhibited a persistent bearish crossover. Notably, the indicator’s negative histogram reading of -8.90 further confirmed that the bears maintained the technical advantage. Overall, the prevailing bearish technical indicators currently overshadow the bullish implications stemming from exchange withdrawals. Unless the bulls reclaim the $2,385 support, ETH could face further price decline toward $2,300.
