Ethereum Holds Steady Around $2.5K as Exchange Reserves Decline

Ethereum has entered a consolidation phase following a notable recovery from the $1.5K region. The cryptocurrency is currently trading just under $2.5K, demonstrating a degree of resilience despite multiple attempts to breach the upper limit of its recent trading range. Meanwhile, exchange reserves continue to decline, indicating a potentially constructive supply-side backdrop. The daily structure has shown notable enhancement over the past several weeks. ETH has successfully emerged from the extended consolidation phase near the $1.9K level and subsequently regained the $2.1K region, a level that had previously served as significant resistance. The breakout exhibited remarkable strength, with ETH ascending almost vertically from approximately $1.9K to $2.5K. The price has since positioned itself above the moving averages illustrated on the chart, with both the 100-day and 200-day moving averages exhibiting an upward trajectory. This indicates that the overarching trend is shifting from recovery toward a potentially bullish configuration.

ETH is currently positioned within a notable resistance zone, ranging from $2.4K to $2.5K, with the present price hovering around $2.47K. The market has approached this area multiple times without achieving a definitive daily breakout, establishing it as the crucial level to monitor. A sustained move above 2.5K could open the way toward the next resistance area, which sits around 3.3K. On the downside, the first significant support level is the previous breakout zone near $2.1K. As long as ETH sustains its position above this region, the recent structural enhancement remains unaltered. The daily RSI merits attention, having significantly increased from the severely weak levels observed at the June bottom, yet it has since fallen below the conventional overbought threshold. This suggests a possible consolidation or correction until the market stabilises and new buying momentum arises.

The 4-hour chart reveals a distinctly clearer consolidation structure. Following the explosive move from the $1.9K area, ETH has been trading within a relatively stable range of approximately $2.35K to $2.55K. Repeated reactions from the upper end of this range indicate that sellers continue to be active around $2.45K-$2.5K, whereas buyers have persistently defended the lower boundary near $2.35K-$2.4K. ETH is currently situated in the middle of the range, reflecting a state of indecision that is also apparent in the 4-hour RSI, which remains around 50. A confirmed breakout above $2.5K would bolster the continuation setup and potentially reveal higher resistance levels. Conversely, a break below $2.4K would indicate that the consolidation is evolving into a more significant correction, with the $2.25K demand zone emerging as the next key area of focus. The exchange reserve chart offers a compelling context for the technical analysis. Ethereum’s exchange reserves have experienced a consistent decline, decreasing from over 21 million ETH in 2025 to around 14.9 million ETH at present, despite ETH’s recovery toward $2,400.

Exchange reserves quantify the volume of ETH maintained on centralised exchanges. A persistent decline generally indicates a reduced availability of coins on exchanges for potential selling; however, this metric alone does not substantiate that investors are accumulating. The divergence is especially pronounced in the most recent segment of the chart. ETH has experienced a significant rebound from its previous lows, while the trend in exchange reserves remains on a downward trajectory. This indicates that the supply accessible on exchanges has not risen in tandem with the price recovery. From a market-structure perspective, this could be advantageous if demand persists in its expansion. With a reduced supply of ETH on exchanges, a persistent rise in spot demand could facilitate upward price movement. However, consider the declining reserve trend as a supporting factor rather than a standalone bullish signal.
