Ethereum has staged a significant recovery from its June lows. It has regained significant support levels and is currently advancing towards a critical technical threshold. While short-term momentum continues to favour buyers, the broader trend remains hindered by overhead resistance and a persistently negative Coinbase Premium Index, indicating that institutional demand from U.S. investors has not yet fully reemerged. On the daily timeframe, ETH has experienced a notable rebound following its defence of the $1.5K demand zone, where buyers consistently intervened to counteract the prevailing downtrend. The recovery has propelled the price above the upper boundary of the descending channel. The price is nearing a significant convergence of resistance. The descending trendline aligns closely with the 100-day moving average, while the 200-day moving average remains higher around the $2.2K region. These dynamic resistance levels reinforce the nearby horizontal supply zones at $2,000 and $2,400.
This convergence positions this area as the principal barrier prior to the emergence of any significant bullish reversal. Momentum has shown significant improvement, as evidenced by the RSI moving toward the upper half of its range, indicating a rise in buying pressure while still remaining below overbought levels. As it currently appears, the trajectory toward the $2K to $2.2K resistance zone is unobstructed. However, a rejection from this zone would maintain the overarching bearish structure and heighten the probability of another retracement back within the channel and towards the $1.5K support zone. The lower timeframe reveals a significantly more favourable market structure. ETH has been generating a series of higher highs and higher lows, adhering to an ascending channel that has facilitated its progress during June and July. Following a rebound from the $1.7K short-term demand zone, the price has accelerated towards the upper boundary of the large channel, where it is presently consolidating around $1.9K. This positions ETH directly below a significant resistance trendline that has constrained upward movements in recent weeks.
The immediate support is positioned around $1.76K, where a prior resistance zone has transitioned into support. Maintaining position above this area and the ascending short-term trendline would sustain the existing bullish framework and direct attention towards another effort to surpass the channel resistance around $1.95K. A successful breakout could trigger a continuation toward the psychological $2K level, while a loss of the ascending trendline would likely shift momentum back in favour of sellers and expose the $1.7K support area once again. The Coinbase Premium Index continues to reflect a more cautious outlook despite ETH’s recent price recovery. Despite the recent recovery from the significantly negative levels observed earlier this summer, the metric still resides below zero, suggesting that Ethereum is trading at a discount on Coinbase compared to offshore exchanges.
Historically, sustained positive readings have indicated a robust level of buying activity from institutional participants based in the United States. The prevailing negative premium indicates that this segment of the market has not yet rebounded robustly, despite price efforts to establish a short-term uptrend. This divergence implies that the ongoing recovery is being driven primarily by broader market demand rather than strong institutional accumulation. A return to positive territory would bolster the bullish argument and enhance confidence that the ongoing advance possesses adequate underlying support to confront the significant resistance levels above. Until then, traders ought to observe the ongoing breakout attempt with a degree of caution, as diminishing demand at resistance may still result in another corrective movement.
